Editor's note: First of all, the night that this blog is about was very impromptu, so please do not feel left out if you did not hear about it and were not there. In case this happens again, make sure to follow @RandomFans on Twitter. Thanks go to Ayumihamano (Hex), for writing a blog about it, and thanks go to BSfan and blahdiddy2003, for helping out from the start. Final thanks go to RandomGuy for showing up and making the night truly special. ~spideymouse
Saturday, March 6th, 2010, was to a lot of people just another day, but to RandomFans, however, it was the third anniversary of the first episode of "Hi, I'm a Marvel...and I'm a DC."
And to celebrate, we gathered together in spideymouse's BlogTV account, where we watched most of the RandomVideos that RandomGuy and Gal had posted on YouTube, including ItsJustSomeRandomGal's Greetings for New York Comic Con, 'Twas the Dark Knight Before Christmas, Goblin Bloggin', Afters Hours, Happy Hour, and a lot more. We watched almost all of the videos.
For the RandomFans who showed up, there was the added bonus of talking to RandomGuy, who was taking time from his busy schedule of working on the next RandomVid with Gal to join us and watch some of the videos with us for over two hours until Gal pulled him away so he could help.
While he was there, though, he co-hosted with spideymouse, much to all the fans' delight. A few even called the experience "surreal," especially when we got to see Guy posing with himself from the "Marvel/DC: After Hours #5...DELAYED!!!" video, and the impromptu dance he did to his own remix had all of us geeking out. Personally I'm kicking myself for not getting a screenshot of that. Also, hearing Guy say the lines in the voices of characters made my week and gave me the giggles.
From beginning to end, the party lasted 6 hours, with more fans coming in all the time. We all enjoyed quoting our favorite lines as the characters said them.
However, it wouldn't have been a RandomVerse get-together if there wasn't some fist shaking and yelling at Soundwave. RandomFans have learned a lot of patience over the years, first with waiting for the episodes and then with all of the technical problems with BlogTV.
Some of these glitches allowed for games such as Caption the Screenshot and Dance to the Skipping Remix, one looping skip that made me glad that there it was past midnight in both the East and West Coast of North America. blahdiddy2003 and Guy even made jokes about a Wolverine and Superman slash shipping. So blame them for giving me the idea for a RandomVerse Slash vid.
All in all, it was a good night, with everyone looking forward to seeing each other again in a few days for the Tuesday gathering of RandomFans on ItsJustSomeRandomGuyAndGal's BlogTV channel. So remember folks, Guy's a tool, GuyAndGal are cool.
Over the past few years since ItsJustSomeRandomGuy and Gal starting making Marvel/DC parodies, several fans--and some haters--have pondered just how old the man who writes and voices action figures really is. Now, RandomGal has been gracious and open enough to let us know that she is 26 years old, but RandomGuy has been surprisingly tight-lipped. Often, viewers at the Randoms' blogTV shows have tried to pry it out, even slyly asking what his Chinese Zodiac sign is.
At this point, many figure him to be between 23-32 years old (hey, that's the perfect age range to play the lead in the upcoming Captain America movie!). However, no one outside of his personal life actually knows, and RandomGuy himself has never revealed it...until now. And now, without further adieu...
ItsJustSomeRandomGuy is... THREE YEARS OLD!!!
That's right, you heard it here first, folks! The man, the myth, the legend himself is but a wee 36-month-old lad. Surprising, huh? And to think, all this time we thought that Mike was old enough to be our older brother. Ha! Shows what we know. =P
Okay, yes, I know that was a cop-out, but hey, you gotta take what you can get. Still, it's definitely important to note that today is the 3rd birthday of the ItsJustSomeRandomGuy channel on YouTube. After all, this whole fan site is dedicated to it. Three years ago, a YouTube video was posted on the Internet, and it has never been the same since. Sure, its format was based on an already popular series of Apple commercials, but in the realm of the comic book movie industry, this was a real game changer. Suddenly, someone out there, someone like the rest of us, wasn't just blogging, vlogging, or forum posting about what was good or bad about past, present and future superhero movies; he was doing it with creativity--with style. The Mac vs. PC format fit so well with the age-old Marvel vs. DC rivalry, that it just worked. Spider-Man and Superman, representing their respective companies and movies, totally in character. Why hadn't anyone done that before?
Hi, I'm a Marvel...and I'm a DC. (Mac PC Parody)
It has been quite a productive first three years of RandomLife for the channel since this first game changer (whose recent 4 millionth view I blogged about here), with plenty of videos that proved to be game changers as well. The following is a look back on 23 important videos that have changed the rules of the RandomVerse and have shaped what it looks like after three years.
"Two hundred, fifteen thousand, six hundred views...
Two hundred, fifteen thousand moments so dear...
Two hundred, fifteen thousand, six hundred views...
How do you measure,
measure a vid?
Rorschach and Deapooooooool. Rorschach and Deapoooooooool."
If you didn’t get that reference, then go see RENT. Either watch the movie or listen to the soundtrack. Then, come back and appreciate my brilliance.
However, to truly measure the popularity of the Rorschach and Deadpool video one must juxtapose it against other videos starring its biggest star. And that means more embedded videos!
Without a doubt, Deadpool is the biggest draw the Randoms have. Some might make a case for Gobby, but while he may be a fan favorite I would like to point out that Goblin Bloggin’ #1, #2, and #3 have performed nowhere near as well as the videos that Deadpool has appeared in. This was the video that started it all. Hell, the image of Deadpool used to represent this video is still the image used to represent the Randoms' channel. It’s been less than a year and this video has already garned over 1,250,000 views. This is the 2009 Random Video of the Year. And with all the laughs in this video--WHOA! It’s no wonder it’s so popular.
This video produced the 2009 Random Song of the Year, "Ode to Ryan Reynolds," and has rocketed to almost 500,000 views in 6 months. And this has been the best critically received RandomVid to date. As of this writing, the Deadpool and Green Lantern video is the #46 Top Rated Comedy of all time. That’s absolutely monumental.
