Superhero Movie Future (Chris Nolan To Mentor the Next Superman Movie)

Before I say anything, I want to make it perfectly clear, I love The Dark Knight. I think it was an excellent interpretation of Batman. However, it is not perfect. It was pretentious. Batman himself was too angry and gruff instead of being the modern day Hamlet-type character that he should be. And while Heath Ledger did a wonderful job as The Joker, his praise got a little too out of hand. Most of all the irony of Chris Nolan trying to make a ultra-realistic Batman world, by using overly ridiculous Car-Crashes making many of the scenes implausible.

With that said, it seems DC is trying to get their head straight on their shoulders and start having creative connections within their movies, with, I am assuming, the exception of Green Lantern. They have decided to have Christopher Nolan come in and mentor the director of the next Superman movie, whenever it may be. TO me, there are good and bad aspects to this. For one thing, Nolan has proven he understands the Batman character very well, meaning he could understand Superman. However, Nolan seems to have a distinctive directing style in his films that may not be appropriate for Superman. And while I know he won't be directing the movie, he may wish to find a director who has a similar style. Admittedly, Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are the only two Nolan films I have seen. I had wished to see The Prestige but unfortunately never got around to seeing it, and I do plan to go see Inception when it comes out later this year. So maybe I'm not an expert, but i think we can all tell that Chris Nolan does have a certain directing style.

Obviously Mr. Nolan is not an idiot, quite the contrary, he has proven he is quite a smart man in the world of film-making. But even the smartest of men make mistakes, especially in movies, what one might think is a good idea, another may hate. Best example is that their are people who truly hate The Dark Knight, and probably wish to have the series rebooted.

But where does that leave us? Reboots that's what. Let's take a second to talk about Spider-Man, my last entry was focused on Spider-Man 4 and my theories on what would have happened, but that fatal day came when it was announced that Sam Raimi would step down from directing the Spider-Man series, and on top of that it was getting a reboot. When I heard this, I was positively devastated. To show this I even changed my Facebook profile picture to a picture of me holding a sign saying, "DON'T REBOOT SPIDER-MAN" Since then, weeks have passed and while I'm still upset that we won't get a Spider-Man 4, I think we could still get a pretty good movie out of this.

In truth, I feel that the Spider-Man reboot is a omen to a new age of Film-Making. It used to be a good thing that Directors would try and please the fans when they made their films, but now I'm not so sure. You can't please everyone, that's just the way it is. And if a large amount of people aren't satisfied with a certain film, are we just going to reboot that too? Imagine if the Star Wars prequels had come out around this time. If they had gotten the same amount of criticism they had gotten when they really did come out. Would 20th Century Fox have tried to reboot Star Wars? Ok, I admit I'm looking at this a little too darkly, but don't you think we're going down a path that could lead to a perpetual groundhog day, where movies are just reboots or maybe reboots of reboots?

Yes, I know that Sam Raimi left Spider-Man because of creative differences between he and Sony Pictures, and what if no one likes this new Spider-man are they going to reboot it? Look, isn't there a Fantastic Four Reboot in the works? And what could happen if we don't like the Avengers[/i] movie? Will Marvel have to start that over again? Where do we draw the line, where do we learn to compromise?

Ok, I'm sorry if i depressed you or upset any of you, but this is just how I feel.

The Watcher's Thoughts: Spiderman 4 (Kingpin?)

Created On: 06/08/2009 09:31:25
For those of you who are waiting for part 2 of Thor (Yah right inch i'll be getting to that soon.

Something has caught my attention in the last few days. Spider-Man 4 . Being the only non-avengers centric marvel film (man what a mouthful :whistle coming out in 2011, it might be over shadowed. Sadly enough after SM3 It seems like no one cares anymore, but I do. Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire, and even Ms. Kirsten Dunst will return to the Web Heads flicks. So far that's all the cast we've got.

If you go on Beyond Hollywood you'll see that they seem to have cracked a code In the words of the film makers. And Since Morbius has been officially cut from the film, they seem to think the Villain may be the Kingpin.

First things first, correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't fox own Kingpin? (stupid Fox :angry Maybe if marvel starts to make the Spider-man films themselves they can by the kingpin back and use him. And if that happens who is gonna play him. Believe it or not my dad have talked about this before all this info came out. I said that I did not want MCD to play him again.

Here are some actors I think may work

Fred Thompson
Ian McShane
Bruce McGill
Even Ving Rhames

Fellow Watcher's, you have a job, look for the best actor you think can play Kingpin.

The Watchers Thoughts: Thor the Movie Part 1

Created On: 06/04/2009 10:15:42
Hi guys, Lac The Watcher here. If you know me pretty well you'll know I'm really looking forward to the Thor Movie so I thought I'd just get it out of my system .

Anyway one of the first things we learned about the movie was that Kenneth Branagh was directing the film. It was odd, I checked wikipedia on him and found out he directed one of my moms favorite films "Much Ado About Nothing" . Moreover he has also played Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Kurt Wallander.

Then came the announcement of the cast , I was sycked . Days passed and Nothing happened , I was getting very impatient then I saw Spideymouse write that Chris Hemsworth was in final talks to play the god of Thunder. And then he was cast, and then he wasn't, and then he was cast again, and then he wasn't, but I'm pretty sure this time we can safely say that he is playing Thor.

One person who did get Officially cast was Tom Hiddleson as the God of Mischief, Loki. I took one look at his face and said, WOW , HE REALLY DOES LOOK LIKE LOKI!!! And I was even happier to see his acting History, I can see were Branagh found him, he's worked with him twice!

Be sure to check out part 2 next time !!!
