It's been a while...let's catch up shall we?
Created On: 03/26/2012 04:39:19
Hey all:
Well it's been a while since I've been on the site and I haven't been in the chat room lately. So let me catch ya'll up on a few things that I've been doing.
Womanthology is now out in comic book stores! My first comic book story ever is in the book! I'm very excited about that. My story's entitled Defect: Light to Combat the Darkness and it's illustrated by Kelly Turnbull. There are a lot of awesome stories and information in the anthology so if you haven't purchased a copy yet what are you waiting for? All proceeds go to charity.
Also IDW announced that there's gonna be an ongoing Womanthology series! The first in the line up is Womanthology Space so look for that coming this year!
I also became a contributor to WhyNotIndie.com you can read articles there. I have three recent comic spotlights:
http://whynotindie.com/2012/03/comic-spotlight-howard-lovecraft-and-the-undersea-kingdom/
In February I got to attend MegaCon which was fun. I was on the Womanthology panel and I got to see Stan Lee! I didn't meet him personally (that's too expensive) but I was in the same room as him and I got to hear him speak.
On a personal note: I got my first car and my first dog. And my birthday's coming up sooon!
So that's all for now!
Captain America Review (spoiler alert)
Created On: 07/22/2011 16:27:36
Today I went to see Captain America. I came in with high hopes since I saw Thor and watched the after credits of that film I hoped that this movie would deliver. .. Guess what? It delivered and it delivered perfectly!
From beginning to end this film was equally filled with laughs, action, and drama. The plot was excellent! The only thing I disliked was this song in the film sung by the war bond ladies. But it was part of the time period so it wasn’t a huge dislike. Now on to the actors.
Chris Evans:
I’ve seen in other films-particularly as Johnny Storm in the Fantastic Four-and he’s good. But as Steve Rogers and Captain America, he was great! He did an excellent job and I know that when he was offered the film he had turned it down for a couple of reasons, I’m glad that in the end he decided to take the part. In the first minutes of the film, we meet Steve Rogers and it’s really important that the actor who’s playing him does a great job and Chris Evans does just that. He gives us the humble person who despite being small, short, and frail stands up to bullies, and wants to serve his country. And when he turns into Captain America , he remains humble. You’ve seen this scene in the trailers, so it’s not a spoiler, you know the scene where the Red Skull asks Captain America “What makes you soo special?” and Cap responds “Nothing. I’m just a kid from Brooklyn.” That sums up who Stever Rogers/Captain America is.
The rest of the cast:
They do an excellent job! Tommy Lee Jones who plays Col. Chester Phillips delivers the funny quips, Hugo Weaving who protrayed the voice of Megatron in the live action Transformers films and was the main villian in the Matrix Trilogy, plays another villian The Red Skull and he does so with ease. Stanley Tucci wonderfully protrays Dr. Abraham Erskine while Hayley Atwell who protrays Peggy Carter is awesome in the role. She’s not on the sidelines in the film she’s part of the action. One of my favorite scenes with her in the film is when the chosen few for the super soldier program along with Steve are at boot camp and one of the soldiers is giving her lip along with some sexual talk and she punches him! That was just excellent!
Dominic Cooper played Howard Stark and I enjoyed watching him in the role. It was great to see where Tony gets some of his qualities from and it was interesting to see how different Howard is when he is younger verses when we see an older Howard Stark in Iron Man 2. It makes you want to know what happened along the way.
Now let’s get to the Howling Commandos:
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes was a great choice! I’m not going totally spoil it for you but I could see him as Winter Soldier in a future film. The rest of the actors were excellent!
Now you probally know about the after credits scene but I advise you to stay anyway and watch it again.
Captain America is an excellent film for the summer and so far it’s my favorite film of 2011. Thor is now in second place! Go see this film and I’ll see you next year when I do an review for The Avengers movie!

Womanthology

Overwhelmed with gratitude. That’s what I am right now. I am so thankful and grateful to be a part of Womanthology.
Womanthology :
“is a large scale anthology comic showcasing the works of women in comics. It is created entirely by over 140 women of all experience levels, including top industry professionals such as;
Barbara Kesel (Writer/Editor Marvel, DC, Crossgen, Image, Dark Horse)
Gail Simone ( DC writer, Wonder Woman, Birds of Prey, Secret Six)
Annie Nocenti ( Marvel writer, Dardevil, Editor for Uncanny X-Men, New Mutants)
Ming Doyle ( Boom, Image, Marvel artist)
Devin Grayson (DC writer; Batman, Nightwing, New Titans)
Lauren Montgomery (Director & Storyboard Artist - Justice League, DC)
Fiona Staples (DC, Wildstorm, IDW , Vertigo artist)
June Brigman (Creator; Brenda Starr, Power Pack)
Samantha Newark (Voice of JEM, Singer/Vocals - God of War, Hook)
Bonnie Burton( Grrl.com)
Many, many more! “
-from the Womanthology page on Kickstarter.com
I am one of those women.
It was by chance either on Tumblr or Twitter that I was able to be a part of Womanthology. I was one of the last few ladies to join before signing on for the first volume was closed. I am very grateful to be a part of this project.
Growing up as a young black girl, I got made fun of reading comics. I was told that boys only read them. But I kept on reading them. Comics was part of my childhood and still is. I also love writing and have been doing that since I could talk so writing comic books would be putting two of the things that I enjoy together in an awesome package!
I know there are some out there who think that there isn’t support for women in comics. As I write this the goal for Womanthology to be funded was met in less than 24 hours! So there are many, many, people out there who support women in comics and want to see more women in the industry!
So now that Womanthology’s goal has been met what should those of you out there do? Well I want those of you who haven’t backed this project to come and support it! Those of you who have given already and can not give no more spread the word to everyone! This project is important! I would love to see a vol. 2, 3, etc. for Womanthology!
Thank you so much!

Transformers: Dark of the Moon Review
Created On: 07/12/2011 06:18:42
So I just got back from watching this film and I loved it! It was way better than the second one and it’s almost as good as the first!
I didn’t see the film in 3D but I could see how it would be an excellent 3D film-great cinematography!
The plot was good-I’m not going to reveal any spoilers but from what we’ve seen in the trailers humans learned of the existence of the transformers during the space race years. But that’s just part of the story. There is death, betrayal, in the movie. One of the major characters dies and you get to see a glimpse of Cybertron. I thought the film moved along well-it is a too hour film and it didn’t drag either. This film has great action sequences and comedy and drama. Linkin Park contributes another great song to the soundtrack.
The charcacters:
The Fleshings:
Let’s start with the newcomers: As we all know Megan Fox didn’t reprise her role and actually I thought that was just fine. I figured Mikaela’s and Sam’s relationship might not last through the college years. During the film they do give a brief explanation about the ending of their relationship and it’s pretty much a big middle finger to Megan Fox. It doesn’t pay to call Michael Bay “Hitler” especially when Steven Spielberg is behind the film! Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who plays Carly Spencer did a good job as it was her first time acting. Her introduction in the film feels like a Victoria Secrets commercial! . Patrick Dempsey plays Dylan Gould and he’s Carly’s boss (Rosie). He has significant role in the film but you’ve gotta watch the movie to find out. There are other new characters and cameo appearances in the film. Ken Jeong’s character cameo is important to the story and is also hiilarious. All the returning cast play their parts well. We don’t see Sam’s parents as much but when we do see them they have funny moments.
The Transformers:
It was great to see the new and old Transformers again! As always Optimus kicked butt and so did the rest of the Autobots and Decepticons. I enjoyed the interaction they had with each other and with the humans.
Well that does it for this review. I really enjoyed the movie and I think you will too! Go see it! Let’s Roll!

Thor Film Review
Created On: 05/07/2011 16:50:39
Greetings my fellow Midgardians! Tis I Lady Tali Adina. I have returned after watching the Mighty Thor on the big screen and I bring thee my review.
I was able to view the film for free because I am an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. (www.joinshield.com) and I won tickets.
It was an excellent film with a great story, cinematography, acting, and action.
Lord Hemsworth played the god of thunder excellently and the Lady Portman did a great job as well as Jane Foster. Lord Hiddleston who played Loki-who is one of my favorite villians-was great as well. All of the supporting actors and actresses were excellent!
Twas interesting to see the big character difference and transformation for Lord Stevenson who previously had played The Punisher and twas now in this film, protraying Volstagg one of the the Warriors Three.
Twas interesting debate about actor Lord Elba-a black man-protraying Heimdall, who is a Norse (white) god. In my humble opinion, I didn’t see a problem with it. Tis a character who could have been any color. Besides, who’s to say that there couldn’t be any black Norse gods? Black people can be as white as whiteout and as black as night. There are black folks who can pass for white and some do-but that is another story for another blog…Lord Elba was great.
I did not see the film in 3D and refused to do as such! Verily I say to thee, they had more movie times for 3D than for 2D which I thought was unfair. I hate 3D as I hate hell and if anyone tries to leave me with no choice but to see a film in 3D, I would say to them-Have at thee!
The Bi-frost bridge looked amazing and the realm eternal-Asgard was a beautiful sight to behold. There are some who wished to see more of this realm in the film, I thought it was a good amount and tis the first movie so I’m sure there will be more to be seen of Asgard in the future.
The story moved right along, twasn’t any boring points. The explanations for the existence of the nine realms and magic were great and easy to understand and made sense. The film had an equal amount of everything-action, romance, and comedy. Lady Dennings who protrayed Darc y was the main comedic relief-other characters had their moments as well.
When the film was over, many left and missed out on a special scene after the film credits. I warn thee now to stay thy hand and wait. You’ll view a scene that is vital to the future Avengers movie!
Overall it was a film for the gods! I have no complaints and I would see it again. Now if thou haven’t already, go forth and view Thor and tell me what thou thought of it.
For now I bid thee farewell.
For Odin, For Asgard!
