Thanks to two lightning-fast production schedules, we are once again treated to an X-centric YouTube video with plenty of laugh-out-louds. Just over two years since the release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine in May 2009, 20th Century Fox put out their fifth X-Men film today, and just over a week since the posting of their Mutants of the Caribbean Parody, ItsJustSomeRandomGuy and Gal have made their timely response! Check out the video below!

Call me a sucker for running jokes, but I absolutely loved this video for that very reason. While Magneto and Xavier took stage left for their debuts in the "Hi, I'm a Marvel...and I'm a DC" series, there was a certain hint of familiarity in their appearances--especially Magneto's. The reappearance of the metal locker that once smashed Peter Parker/Harry Potter, the repeated smashing of a foe, and his declaration as an "evolutionary superior, the savior of mutantkind, the Master of Magnetism"... It was definitely the Magneto that we've gotten to know and love in the RandomVerse. As for Xavier's appearance, we need not say much more than that Alec Guinness would have made a great Professor X.

Finally, in probably the best call-back joke of the year, Mystique's very first appearance was a short, but oh-so-sweet one. The joke was so perfect--the long-recorded fact that Ryan Reynolds plays both Deadpool and Hal Jordan comes deliciously full circle in a summer where Mystique and Hal Jordan are both in the movies--the priceless concept that yes, there really are two naked, blue, superhuman characters from comic book movies--the delivery... Man! It's no wonder the Randoms have been desperately searching for a Mystique action figure all this time!

Other things to note and enjoy about this video: the *incredible* fist that Green Lantern constructs with his power ring... Hal Jordan's been quite a trooper, representing DC all by his lonesome, courageously fighting an onslaught of Marvels, and doing a fairly good job at it... Whenever you can reuse a Gregory Peck/Family Guy quote in a completely fresh and different way, you know you're a comedic genius...

I KNOW, RIGHT?!?! It's. Finally. Here. It's May 2011, which means the summer movie season is upon us! And thanks to four Marvel and DC movies--three of which are bona fide big screen debuts--it's going to be great to see some fresh blood (and fresh material) flowing from our favorite Marvel/DC YouTube videos from ItsJustSomeRandomGuy and Gal!

Speaking of fresh blood, THOR HATH SPOKEN! Yep, while Thor made his first RandomVerse appearance in 2010's RandomVid of the Year almost a year ago, this video marks the first time we've been privileged to hear RandomGuy's vocal rendition of the Mighty Avenger! His presence and huge personality dominates this video immensely, and I love it!

So, Round Five, shall we start?

Aye, verily!

Just hours ago, ItsJustSomeRandomGuy posted the first RandomVid of 2011, and boy, is it fun!
Holy crap this video wins in many, many, MANY ways. Using Lars and Lance they way they did was a masterful decision. They also continued the tradition of incorporating music into their humor, which was a great touch. And not just any type of music. Fantastic techo/euro-pop and dynamite 90s electronica-type music. Gnarly, dude. I hope C2E2 lets them sell these as ringtones.

In case people aren't aware, C2E2 is just around the corner on March 18-20, 2011. AND, the 5th ever ItsJustSomeRandomPanel is going to be held on Friday, March 18th, at 6pm! I'm not going to be at the panel (ARGH!), but will be trolling around on Saturday with my girlfriend. So, don't feel too bad for me. Anyway, if you're a RandomFan around the Midwest, you should definitely consider going! Now remember...

C2E2 is... LIFE!!!

Editor's Note: After 2+ months, we're continuing the "A Look Back..." review series here on www.randomfans.com, with fellow long-time RandomFan LactheWatcher again contributing! And again, if you want to help write reviews, let me know. (Also, the long overdue Zero Hour #5 review will be coming. So sorry it's so late.) ~spideymouse

"Hi I'm a Marvel, and I'm a DC #2"

Personally, I've always loved researching things about comic books. When I was younger and first getting into comic book heroes, I used to go to my bookstores and read up about them. And THAT is how you sell a movie. You don't make people learn up on the subject, you leave it up to them to care about it. If they don't want to, fine, at least you brought them in to the theater and made a little profit out of it. I think that's why some people didn't enjoy Superman Returns. Its nostalgia factor seemed to alienate its viewers. People who had never shown interest in the Man of Steel before probably were lost with what exactly Bryan Singer was trying to do.

Editor's Note: We're starting a review series here on www.randomfans.com called "A Look Back...", and fellow long-time RandomFan LactheWatcher has signed up to start us off with Round One! That's right, we're reviewing every Marvel/DC video by ItsJustSomeRandomGuy! (If you want to help write reviews, let me know.) ~spideymouse

"Hi I'm a Marvel, and I'm a DC #1"

You know, honestly, the "Get A Mac" ads aren't really funny. The fact that they're made for the sole purpose of being completely biased and get you to buy a Mac (The fact that I HAVE bought a Mac is beside the point...). I think these commercials make us roll our eyes because they conveniently leave out the good aspects of what Windows has done. So what happens when a third party on the internet decides, "Hey I'm going to create a video series with the same set up. But instead of making a lousy propaganda show, I'm gonna do it, with a love of both party's!" And thus, "Marvel/DC" was born.

This first video, being only 1 minute and thirty eight seconds, was a surprisingly short taste of what was to come from our beloved internet video maker. Really, he was the ultimate overnight hit, I'm pretty sure yours truly first saw about only a week after he posted the first video. I think the reason he stuck to us was simply the fact that we had never really had anything like this before. Sure we had had intercompany cross-overs, but never in a way that gave the characters a sense of comradery between them. Fans had always asked the question, "Who Would Win?" instead of the simple question of "What would it be like if they just EXISTED together?" and it's surprisingly much more entertaining to just watch them have small talk that an all out brawl. Another appealing aspect I think is the no-nonsense attitude they take toward their movies, RandomGuy writes these episodes with complete honesty, if a Marvel movie fails to satisfy, or vice-versa, then RandomGuy will tell you like it is. He wrote these videos as an unbiased comic book fan, and we love him for it.

Now for the content. The first video consists of the most relevant superheroes of 2007, Superman and Spider-Man. They talk about DC's recent unfortunate failures to get their movies off the ground, and Marvel's success at getting theirs out. Superman is left kinda owned by Spidey, albeit unintentionally, as he explains how positive Marvel is in getting out their movies.

Now, as we all know by now, some of the information Spider-Man states is a little outdated. Saying three more Spider-Man movies are on the way, along with an Ant-Man movie. I'm not saying I'm counting this against the video, it was three years ago, we didn't know what would happen at this point (We still had George W. Bush as a president, I didn't even know who Barack Obama was yet...). We didn't realize Green Lantern would be getting a movie, and it really WOULD get made, so as far as we were concerned, Marvel had won Round One. Not really much more to say about this video, it's hard to go in depth about a video that is only about a minute and a half long, I'm not even gonna bother with a rating system, we wouldn't be here is his videos sucked!

One thing I really want to talk about in this video is the fans' reaction to it. When this first video came out, most people were under the impression (At least, the ones who didn't read comics) that DC comics wasn't a good comic book company. Many saying Batman was the only good DC comics superhero. RandomGuy has publicly stated that was never his intention, it was simply what was going on in the comic book world at that time. What's really interesting is the fact that I doubt this was RandomGuy's intention, but this very first video ended up being a prologue to the After Hours Arc. The way that Superman is trapped in the fact he's in a world that has left him behind, the Man of Steel has become the underdog. But you know, saying that, if it wasn't for those people, we probably wouldn't have had After Hours. And let me tell you, I can't wait to get to those videos!

This video gave us something comic book fans needed, well written fan-fiction. And YouTube would never be the same.

So, apparently comic conventions are no good for me, or I'm no good for them, because the past two cons I've been to have completely knocked me out of my normal RandomFan rhythm for about a week or so. Case in point, I still haven't posted all of the videos and pictures from C2E2 this past April. In case you weren't aware, some huge Marvel/DC stuff happened at and after the 2010 New York Comic Con two weekends ago, and I guess I just haven't been up for writing about it until now.

First, and always most importantly, new RandomVids.
At the dawn of the first day of NYCC 2010, while I was stuck in line with fellow RandomFan BSfan, the ItsJustSomeRandomGuy YouTube channel posted a quick promo video for the 4th ItsJustSomeRandomPanel, as shown below:

Of course, it was 36 hours later when the real magic happened. Six months in the making, Zero Hour #4 finally premiered that Saturday, but the experience was incredible. A few days later, as promised, the Randoms eventually posted the video on their YouTube channel:

I should dedicate a full post to this video, but I probably won't. I'll just say that this video is chock-full of instant classic RandomQuotes ("Killing is a perfectly legitimate business!" "Killing's not legitimate!" "...It's a business!") and seamless and exciting continuity (Iron Man 2, eat your heart out!). What's exciting is that we won't be waiting six months for Zero Hour #5. So watch this one over and over to help motivate the Randoms to keep up the amazing work!

The RandomFandom
What has been really neat about going to the past two comic cons--besides seeing the new RandomVideos in advance--is both meeting the Randoms and other RandomFans. While it was unfortunate that Brinna wasn't able to make it to NYCC or even make a RandomGal greeting this year, it was still awesome to once again chill with Mike and be able to help him with his panel.

It was definitely a highlight finally meeting BigBatFan, BSfan, Dekamaster, dtrain8906, dumoktheartist, JadeLiCat, and Vinny1138, all RandomFans who regularly chat at the Randoms' Tuesdaily blogTV broadcasts. I spent most of the time with BSfan and dtrain8906, my fellow perma ops. Good times were had:

The RandomPanel
While it shouldn't be so surprising but it always somehow is, ItsJustSomeRandomPanel is a really, really popular event at the New York Comic Con and C2E2. Lines form for it over an hour in advance, and yet Reed Exhibitions, the organizer of these cons, always seems to underestimate how many people will show up for it (underestimating popularity was actually a theme among several panels that they booked this year). Once the room for the panel was opened, it was filled up almost instantly with geeks clamoring to get a good view of the latest installment of Zero Hour, to the point where the whole back wall was lined with people standing. To say the least, the turnout was excellent.

As it was for me at C2E2, ItsJustSomeRandomPanel was by far my favorite event at the con. The Randoms are both born performers, and they really know how to handle an audience. While they didn't have time to set up the hologram for RandomGal, it was nice to hear her on speaker phone. Overall, the questions that were asked were just about the same as the ones at C2E2: "Were you always a toy collector?", "What are your favorite comic book characters?", and "Can you put ______ in your videos?" Sadly, there wasn't a little boy stealing the show this time.

The RandomCon
It was an interesting night after the panel. As we did at C2E2, we invited any RandomFans who were interested to hang out with RandomGuy afterwards. We amassed about 20 fans, twice as many as in Chicago, and we all headed towards a diner to eat a late dinner and geek out. Problem was, we had to split into three tables, so only about a third of the fans were able to actually chat with Mike. Oddly enough, most of the others didn't really seem to care, as they simply held their own geekout sessions about comic book movies and the like. Personally, it's still difficult to me to engage in the shoutfests that occur when geeks get together. Maybe I'll work on it for the next one.

New York Comic Con
Overall NYCC was way bigger than C2E2. The lines were longer, the panels were more crowded, and there were just more people in general. Of course, this was the fifth NYCC and C2E2 was only on its maiden voyage, so the disparity was understandable. Still, it makes me shudder to imagine going to the San Diego Comic Con. Still, this con had its upsides. For one, Stan Lee was there, and it was so cool to see him in person. (Pics to come.) Second, there were way more giveaways; I think I got my admission's worth in free comics. It was also great to meet both John Romita Sr. and John Romita Jr. and get their autographs:

Other writers and artists like Brian Michael Bendis, Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente and Khoi Pham were also there, and it was great to see them as well.

More pics to come!

All in all, NYCC was great. I'm definitely going to go to C2E2 2011 if there's a RandomPanel, and especially if it's premiering the season finale of Zero Hour. I'm not sure if I'll go to New York Comic Con again, but it was definitely a great experience.

As the one and only video to be made by ItsJustSomeRandomGuy and Gal to promote this year's New York Comic Con 2010, the Randoms picked a classic Looney Tunes cartoon to parody. Deadpool reprises his short-lived role as Daffy Duck from Zero Hour #3 in this gem of a promo:

I don't know what it is, but Deadpool fits so perfectly as Daffy Duck for some reason.

I wrote this in my comment for the video, but I'll say it again here. At first, seeing Deadpool once again in the thumbnail for the new video in my subscriptions box, I was afraid I was getting tired of his recent glut of screen time (this is the tenth video in a row featuring Deadpool, and the third Comic Con-related Deadpool video).

But after actually watching the video, my mind was changed. The premise for this video is great, and I don't know if I'd be able to see anyone else as the star. I could see the Green Goblin perhaps, although he works great in his role in the ending, or even Spider-Man, but when it comes to a parody of a cartoon centered on breaking the fourth wall, it's gotta be Deadpool.

What did you RandomFans think of the video? And are you going to attend the New York Comic Con this year? Let your voices be heard in the comments section!

From the very beginning of the ItsJustSomeRandomGuy channel on YouTube, the RandomVerse has been continually expanding. The Randoms' tendency to try new things and explore new ideas is both heavily documented in previous ItsJustSomeRandomFanSite blogs as well as easily apparent in their first 101 videos. Adding new characters, starting new spin-off series, and dreaming up new types of parodies has simply been an integral part of the journey that started more than three years ago.

Enter RandomVid #102. My March 6, 2010 article on ItsJustSomeRandomGuy's age put a spotlight on the RandomVerse's several and frequent game changers. "Hi, I'm TWILIGHT and I'm TRUE BLOOD" definitely goes on the list.

I wasn't the first to post this video on this fan site; ExiaBlade was. Below is his review, as well as the video, originally posted here in the RandomForum.
It sucks that I haven't been attending the weekly get-togethers, but I can't really do anything about it right now. But at least I can be involved by doing this.

I loved this vid! Not just for being funny, but one of their most creative vids, which is saying something considering how creative they are. It's hard to decide which skit was the funniest, though the vharmony one might be my favorite. And of course, gotta give it up for Randomgal taking center stage as the respective love interests. Oh and give it up for the game show host, "Gee, I hope no one curses me with immortal SEXINESS!!!"

All in all, brilliant, and I love the variety they've been giving us with more and more of thse vids. Nothing can stop this random train!
On a last note, I know that some RandomFans may feel a bit uneasy trying to get used to this non-Marvel/DC fare. In the ground-breaking dawn of a new era, remember a few things:
1) The Marvel/DC parody is by no means in its twilight!
2) This new moonlighting practice could lead us to more and more exciting franchises never before parodied!
3) The fact that this video features a crappy book series adaptation is eclipsed by its hilarity!
4) From its inception, the RandomVerse has been described by this fan site as: "where the fans, videos, and worlds of ItsJustSomeRandomGuy and Gal collide." The glove still fits. Make mine Random!
