So, apparently comic conventions are no good for me, or I'm no good for them, because the past two cons I've been to have completely knocked me out of my normal RandomFan rhythm for about a week or so. Case in point, I still haven't posted all of the videos and pictures from C2E2 this past April. In case you weren't aware, some huge Marvel/DC stuff happened at and after the 2010 New York Comic Con two weekends ago, and I guess I just haven't been up for writing about it until now. First, and always most importantly, new RandomVids. At the dawn of the first day of NYCC 2010, while I was stuck in line with fellow RandomFan BSfan, the ItsJustSomeRandomGuy YouTube channel posted a quick promo video for the 4th ItsJustSomeRandomPanel, as shown below: Of course, it was 36 hours later when the real magic happened. Six months in the making, Zero Hour #4 finally premiered that Saturday, but the experience was incredible. A few days later, as promised, the Randoms eventually posted the video on their YouTube channel:
I should dedicate a full post to this video, but I probably won't. I'll just say that this video is chock-full of instant classic RandomQuotes ("Killing is a perfectly legitimate business!" "Killing's not legitimate!" "...It's a business!") and seamless and exciting continuity (Iron Man 2, eat your heart out!). What's exciting is that we won't be waiting six months for Zero Hour #5. So watch this one over and over to help motivate the Randoms to keep up the amazing work! The RandomFandom What has been really neat about going to the past two comic cons--besides seeing the new RandomVideos in advance--is both meeting the Randoms and other RandomFans. While it was unfortunate that Brinna wasn't able to make it to NYCC or even make a RandomGal greeting this year, it was still awesome to once again chill with Mike and be able to help him with his panel. It was definitely a highlight finally meeting BigBatFan, BSfan, Dekamaster, dtrain8906, dumoktheartist, JadeLiCat, and Vinny1138, all RandomFans who regularly chat at the Randoms' Tuesdaily blogTV broadcasts. I spent most of the time with BSfan and dtrain8906, my fellow perma ops. Good times were had: ![]() ![]()
The RandomPanel ![]() As it was for me at C2E2, ItsJustSomeRandomPanel was by far my favorite event at the con. The Randoms are both born performers, and they really know how to handle an audience. While they didn't have time to set up the hologram for RandomGal, it was nice to hear her on speaker phone. Overall, the questions that were asked were just about the same as the ones at C2E2: "Were you always a toy collector?", "What are your favorite comic book characters?", and "Can you put ______ in your videos?" Sadly, there wasn't a little boy stealing the show this time. The RandomCon It was an interesting night after the panel. As we did at C2E2, we invited any RandomFans who were interested to hang out with RandomGuy afterwards. We amassed about 20 fans, twice as many as in Chicago, and we all headed towards a diner to eat a late dinner and geek out. Problem was, we had to split into three tables, so only about a third of the fans were able to actually chat with Mike. Oddly enough, most of the others didn't really seem to care, as they simply held their own geekout sessions about comic book movies and the like. Personally, it's still difficult to me to engage in the shoutfests that occur when geeks get together. Maybe I'll work on it for the next one. ![]() New York Comic Con Overall NYCC was way bigger than C2E2. The lines were longer, the panels were more crowded, and there were just more people in general. Of course, this was the fifth NYCC and C2E2 was only on its maiden voyage, so the disparity was understandable. Still, it makes me shudder to imagine going to the San Diego Comic Con. Still, this con had its upsides. For one, Stan Lee was there, and it was so cool to see him in person. (Pics to come.) Second, there were way more giveaways; I think I got my admission's worth in free comics. It was also great to meet both John Romita Sr. and John Romita Jr. and get their autographs: ![]() ![]() Other writers and artists like Brian Michael Bendis, Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente and Khoi Pham were also there, and it was great to see them as well. ![]() More pics to come! All in all, NYCC was great. I'm definitely going to go to C2E2 2011 if there's a RandomPanel, and especially if it's premiering the season finale of Zero Hour. I'm not sure if I'll go to New York Comic Con again, but it was definitely a great experience.

2 questions:
1. What was up with Brinna not showing? Sick? Prior obligations?
2. You mentioned Stan Lee. By any chance, have you seen his show "Superhumans" on the History Channel?
